Solo sex: Tips for men and all penis owners

Solo sex is a great way to discover what arouses you sexually. Here, you’ll find masturbation tips that apply specifically to anyone with a penis.

Where to start

Please read our general tips on masturbation first in order to find out why solo sex is an excellent source of sexual learning. You’ll also find lots of general masturbation tips there.

What if I want a quick release?

If you just want to ejaculate quickly, it usually works best to rub or squeeze your penis or its glans firmly with your hand, while tightening the muscles in your pelvis and butt. You can also press the penis or your entire body very strongly against something. Sexual fantasies, porn or other arousal sources will likely help to increase your sexual arousal and provide you with you a rather rapid release so that you can enjoy the resulting relaxation. You might, however, experience arousing yourself like this as rather strenuous or a bit boring.

What if I want to enjoy the ride?

There are more pleasurable ways to arouse yourself. The trick is to focus on what happens inside your body during arousal. Pay attention to the pleasant sensations in your penis, your entire genital area, and your entire body. Learn to enjoy light touches. This may take time and lots of repetition, but it’s well worth it. It allows you to better feel your sexual arousal. You'll be able to better control when you want to ejaculate. You'll enjoy the experience more and, of course, your sexual partner(s) will also benefit from you having more control and ability to regulate your arousal. Body movement is also very important. You can read more about both of these aspects in our general text on masturbation.

What areas of my body can be aroused?

The head (tip, glans) of your penis has the highest number of nerve receptors in your penis. It would be a shame, however, to focus entirely on the head. Your entire penis is full of receptors. Did you know that almost half of your penis is actually inside your body? So, if you massage the area beneath your scrotum (your balls), you reach your penis as well. Then there's the scrotum itself, another source of arousal. There's also your perineum and your anus. Many people find anal stimulation very arousing. Go ahead and explore. The more you do this, the more interesting certain touches in certain areas will become. This means you will have more ways to arouse yourself. Try different touches: fast, slow, strong, gentle. Let your hands guide you. If something feels good, go there. You will notice that touching not just your genitals, but the entirety of your body is pleasant and can increase arousal.

What about sex toys?

We like variety and think sex toys can be great! You can get advice about sex toys for masturbation in sex shops (if you’re of age). Some toys can help you discover new ways of arousing yourself. We also think that your own hand is an excellent sex toy. As opposed to an object, your hand can feel something, which can add to your arousal and pleasure. Also, your hand is usually way more adept than a sex toy, and offers many more variations in movement or pressure. Here's a hot tip: When you're used to masturbating with one hand, try using the other hand. You might be surprised at how different that feels.

What if I want to practice for sexual intercourse?

Even if you don't have a partner you can practice for sex with a partner during masturbation. Please go ahead and read our exercise tips for vaginal intercourse.
